A 20 year-old man on Monday argued with police officers on guard in front the Huber Mansion, the presidential residence in Istanbul, and tried to commit suicide by taking the officer's gun.
Turkey's Office of Presidency released a statement regarding the incident and said that the man insisted on entering the mansion located in Tarabya district from the guest entrance and argued with the security officer on duty. During a brawl, he took the security officer's gun firing a shot at the police, then committed suicide by shooting himself in the head, the statement said.
The police officer escaped the incident unharmed and the heavily wounded man was transferred to the hospital in critical condition.
The wounded man is believed to be mentally unstable and reports suggest that he had criminal records.
