Turkish counterterror police captured five suspects linked to Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) Wednesday in the central city of Kayseri. Five men are charged with being "imams" or point men relaying FETÖ leader Fetullah Gülen's orders to his followers and were in a secret meeting in an apartment in the city's Talas district.
Police identified the suspects as Mehmet D., who allegedly coordinates FETÖ's activities in the eastern city of Elazığ, Habib B., Kayseri "imam" for FETÖ, Serdar S., "imam" responsible for Gülenists in Adıyaman University in the eponymous city. Two other suspects are charged with links to the terror cult which is accused of masterminding the July 15 coup attempt that killed 248 people and injured hundreds.
Media outlets reported that Habib B. was previously a senior Gülenist "imam" in the city of Adıyaman and recently replaced Sıtkı Baş, the terrorist group's Kayseri imam who fled abroad after authorities issued a detention warrant. Baş is also a suspect in a case against FETÖ, where 68 people including executives of a major business conglomerate stand accused of membership to the terror cult and financing it.
