The case of Ramazan Özçelik, a presidential guard who died Monday has sparked speculation after the Habertürk daily reported that his death, initially treated as an accident, was suspicious.
Özçelik's Uzbek girlfriend Feride Bayramova, who earlier claimed that he accidentally killed himself while playing Russian roulette, has been detained.
Bayramova told police that Özçelik was at her residence in Istanbul when he pulled his gun and pointed it to his head after watching a Russian roulette video online, allegedly telling her he could "play it better."
However, suspicion arose when it was discovered that the gun was not suitable for Russian roulette and Bayramova had in her possession, a $1 bill with a serial number beginning with an F, something associated with Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) loyalists.
