Counterterrorism police Friday detained 43 Daesh suspects in Istanbul and neighboring Kocaeli.
The suspects captured in Istanbul were all foreigners but the police did not reveal their nationalities.
Media reports claimed that the suspects, detained from 16 locations in the city's 10 districts, previously traveled to Syria and Iraq to fight for the terrorist group and were planning attacks inside Turkey. Police found digital material containing pro-Daesh propaganda in the suspects' possession. In Kocaeli, ten suspects were captured by police in simultaneous raids at locations across the city.
Amid fears that Daesh militants who fled Syria could hit Europe and Turkey, authorities have heightened crackdowns on the terrorist group with almost daily operations.
