Counterterrorism police in Istanbul detained 17 suspects linked to the Daesh terrorist group and another 21 suspected members of the PKK terrorist group in two operations on Friday.
In operations against Daesh, the suspects, all foreign nationals, were detained in six districts of the city. Police sources said suspects, whose nationalities were not disclosed, were preparing to carry out attacks.
Turkey is at the forefront of efforts to quell threats from the terrorist group, which partly depends on foreign recruits for fighters. It has so far stopped 5,800 foreign Daesh recruits on its borders and arrested around 10,000 members of the terrorist group.
In operations against the PKK, police detained 21 in the districts of Arnavutköy, Avcılar, Başakşehir, Esenyurt, Gaziosmanpaşa and Sultangazi in simultaneous operations. Suspects were members of PKK's youth wing, media outlets reported.
