Counterterrorism police captured six suspected members of the terrorist group Daesh in the southern province of Adana on Friday. The suspects were planning to carry out attacks on Oct. 29, Republic Day, media outlets reported. Republic Day is a nationwide event marked with ceremonies attended by the country's leaders.Backed by elite Special Operations forces, police raided several locations in Adana in dawn operations. Police also found books promoting Daesh ideology in the raids. The suspects are also accused of recruiting militants for the terrorist group's activities in Syria. The group has been active in Syria and Iraq, two neighbors of Turkey, and rose to prominence by exploiting a security vacuum in those countries.
