The founder of the Free Republic of Liberland represented his country in Istanbul on Wednesday.
Vit Jedlicka, a Former Czech Republic deputy, represented his newly founded "state" – a tiny territory straddling the border between Serbia and Croatia – at the invitation of a non-governmental initiative called the 3H movement.
Before giving his speech Jeclicka asked all in attendance to stand as he presented Liberland's flag and his country's national anthem played. He claimed that he is the president of Liberland, a country with only one citizen.
Jedlicka said Liberland would accept citizenship applications over the internet and claimed that 48,000 people from Turkey had already applied.
The former Czech deputy founded Liberland, a 7-square-kilometer (3 square mile) area, in April. The territory is not recognized by Croatia, Serbia or any other international body.
