As PKK terrorists continue to attack Turkish security forces, a senior leader of the PKK, Murat Karasu, said they are ready for a cease-fire and prepared to restart peace talks under the supervision of a mediator. "We are ready to participate in negotiations under the supervision of mediators as part of a strengthened cease-fire and a democratic resolution for the Kurdish problem," the pro-PKK Turkish daily Özgür Gündem reported on Wednesday.
Karasu's statements came a day after the eight-person delegation, including members from the four pro-Kurdish parties - the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and the People's Democratic Congress (HDK) completed their visit to PKK headquarters in the Qandil Mountains in northern Iraq to meet senior members of the PKK.
However, the statement by the PKK leader is considered by Ankara as insincere due to the group's continued attacks on security forces. Moreover, military sources also said they have been expecting the announcement of the PKK's "tactical" cease-fire due to its heavy casualties.
After the PKK terrorist organization unilaterally ended the cease-fire on July 11 and accelerated its deadly attacks, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) launched numerous air and ground operations against PKK hideouts and strategic targets, which killed 1,200 terrorists in the last two months, hastening a PKK meltdown.
