Bio-gas will be generated from domestic waste in a project titled "Converting Organic Parts of Wastes to Bio-Gas with Dry Fermentation," which is supported by Kocaeli University (KOÜ) and the Science, Industry and Technology Ministry. During a ceremony that took place at the university, KOÜ Chancellor Sadettin Hülagü and Zarif Energy Production General Manager Mustafa Doğru, signed a protocol to carry out the project. The project, which is supported by the SAN-TEZ program, will be undertaken by Professor Durmuş Kaya of the Faculty of Technology at Kocaeli University. As part of the project, the waste that is gathered in the waste storage area in Kırıkkale will be used to produce bio-gas. The 18-month project intends to convert waste into energy, decrease the need for waste storage areas and prevent environmental pollution. The project will also set an example for future recycling projects around Turkey.
