The reports prepared during the "A University Sensitive to Social Gender Equality" workshop were submitted to the Council of Higher Education on Thursday, and will make Gender Equality courses compulsory for university students.
The reports were classified into four categories including: "Introduction of social gender equality as a compulsory course," "Raising awareness of social gender equality among academic and administrative staff," "Violence, sexual abuse, mobbing and sexual harassment in universities" and "General recognition of social gender equality in universities." The first step in the introduction of compulsory social gender equality courses was taken during the workshop. Participants discussed how the course should be included in the curriculum and who should teach the course. It was announced that a common content will be prepared in order to avoid problems that may arise from different contents. An expert staff will be formed at universities' women research centers. The course will be introduced by a pilot scheme. It will be offered either as a distance course or added into the formal education curriculum, depending on the universities. Collaboration within and between universities will be strengthened to prepare common modules. New educational technologies will be used to allow students to be more active during the course.
