The Fatih Municipality provides live piano music to individuals waiting for administrative services. As part of Mayor Mustafa Demir's project, the waiting hall has been altered into a lobby where individuals can listen to music and entertain themselves. A piano was placed in the municipal building and pianist Mehmet Çöklü performs during regular business hours. Çöklü performs classical and Turkish music as well as request songs. Demir said he is happy to implement the project, as he had wanted to do so for a long time.
He said individuals seeking administrative services are now serviced in a peaceful atmosphere. "We do not want individuals to get bored while they are waiting here," Demir added. He said visitors are hosted like a guest at the municipality. "When they pass through the entrance, they can sit in the hall and wait in a relaxed atmosphere. We also offer drinks and snacks. I believe we have created a beautiful place," he said.
Stressing that listening to music makes people feel more at peace, Demir said they have received good feedback so far. "Visitors show interest and even take photos. Our pianist also plays their song requests," he said. Demir believes they can continue to offer more to citizens. "Live piano music is the most important part of the project. We paid special attention to provide to people the level of comfort they would receive if they were in a five-star hotel's lobby," he said. A massive mosaic in the hall also illustrates the beauties of Istanbul's historical peninsula.
