A group of chefs in Muğla's Marmaris district displayed a Turkish flag made of salt and chili powder as part of the Atatürk Commemoration and Youth and Sports Day celebrations on May 19. Chefs from the South Aegean Marmaris Chef's Foundation (GEMAD) gathered at Atatürk Square in Marmaris and first created a mold in the shape of the Turkish flag on the ground with metal bars. They used 250 kilograms of salt to shape the moon and star, and one-and-a-half tons of chili powder for the red portion of the flag. Almost 40 people participated in the event, which took 45 minutes to complete the flag. GEMAD President Yaşar Bayar said they wanted to celebrate the day through an event related to their profession: "We learned that a 175-square-meter flag was made of spices in China. So, we made a 200 square-meter flag. We present the world's biggest flag made of spices to Turkey and Atatürk."
