International Intertraffic Istanbul Fair is introducing the latest technologies related to traffic, road safety, car parking systems and mass transportation that seek to ease as well as make both urban and rural living safer
The three-day International Intertraffic Istanbul fair, which began on Wednesday and concludes today, is showcasing the latest transportation and traffic safety technology at the Istanbul Expo Center. Organized by the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Center and UBM NTSR Fair Organizers, the fair is hosting international companies for the eighth time this year.
The General Directorate of Highways also simulated a new road management project that will launch in 2017.
Turkey's $180 million investment for eliminating chronic traffic congestion and parking problems has attracted the intention of many foreign countries like Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, U.K., France, Singapore, Japan and South Korea. The project, planned to be implemented between 2018 and 2023, is expected to lessen traffic congestion around the country, particularly in Istanbul.
The state-of-art transportation technologies, megaprojects that will turn Turkey's developing cities into metropolises and infrastructural developments concerning land, sea, air and rail transportation, which will connect one region to another and Turkey to the rest of the world, are on display at the fair.
There are also other advanced technologies that will improve Turkey's transportation infrastructure and traffic safety at the fair, including "smart-roads," traffic safety products, real-time bus information systems, smart transportation maps, new railway and air transportation projects, a driver performance measurement system for the Istanbul Electric Tram and Tunnel Company (İETT) drivers, a real-time traffic information system, new generation LED traffic signals, integrating sea transportation to metrobus lines and subways.
A special section of the expo hall has been allocated for intelligent transport systems (ITS), and the Transportation Ministry exhibited its new "Smart Mobility Theater" projects that offer environmentally-friendly, effective and safe transportation solutions.
Local administrations were introduced to the latest technologies concerning traffic, road safety, parking lot systems and mass transportation, all of which are important in urban areas. Developed by the Vienna-based Kapsch Group to decrease traffic accidents by about 50 percent globally, the Early Alarm System was unveiled at the fair. The system can detect cars that are approaching quickly and see ahead to junctions six kilometers away. It also notifies when there is a car six car-lengths in front, engages the emergency break and reminds the driver to slow down. In 2017, the system will be available for purchase for cars, and from 2018, it will be incorporated into cars at the assembly stage during the production process.
The next latest technology at the fair is Solar Edes Camera. Using solar power, the camera will be used to provide traffic safety in rural areas. The camera can identify and control speed, improper passing and seatbelt use in rural regions and fine those who do not abide by traffic laws.In use in Japan, the U.K. and Azerbaijan airports, parking area system with green energy developed by the firm Ski-Tech is among the most interesting technologies promoted at the fair. The system does not require external electricity and runs on solar power in the summer and stores energy in the winter. The government is planning to implement the system at the Istanbul Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen airports and is expected to save TL 4.5 million ($1.70 million) in Istanbul alone.
The General Directorate of Highways also simulated a new road management project that will launch in 2017. During the fair, Turkey's new Smart Traffic Management System and Smart Parking Area System projects were introduced for the first time. The smart parking area system will be implemented by Istanbul's municipal parking corporation İSPARK in 2017.
