Turkish students world champions at Japan robot competition

The robot club of Karabük University (KBÜ) became world champion at the International Sumo Robot Tournament held concurrently with the All Japan Robot-Sumo Tournament in Tokyo. Robot sumo wrestlers competed against each other in the finals and the young university students came first. Professor Refik Polat, the Chancellor of Karabük University, said the university is proud of their students' success. Building sumo robots is also highly valued in overseas countries as an effective educational tool for learning robot technologies, and university students constitute the majority of tournament participants. At present, 20 countries take part in 14 robot sumo tournaments held overseas, with as many as 1,000 robots in total competing each year. Inspired from traditional Japanese sumo wrestling, two robots attempt to push each other out of a circle.
