To better fight environmental pollution, the "garbage taxi" project initiated by central Yozgat province's municipality comes to collect garbage any time upon a citizen's call.
Run under the municipality's Cleaning Affairs Directorate, garbage taxis cruise the city to clean the streets. Unlike municipal trucks that collect garbage at certain times of a day, these taxis can come in a short period. Mayor Kazım Arslan told Anadolu Agency (AA) that it can sometimes be difficult for garbage trucks to enter narrow streets and even cause traffic jams.
"Garbage taxis are more efficient as we can easily send them anywhere in the city," he said, stressing that the practice is an exemplary one in Turkey. Citizens are also satisfied with the municipal project. Muzaffer Şahingöz, a local, said: "Our streets are much cleaner now. We call garbage taxis when we see any rubbish outside and they take it." Another local, Gökhan Oktay, said that garbage taxis drive around the city every day.
