Çankırı Municipality, which previously launched the "train library," is getting ready to open the first ever "plane library" on Sept. 24. An Airbus A300 plane, which is no longer on active duty, has been transformed into a library where children will be able to find everything they need. Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Çankırı Mayor İrfan Dinç said that their primary concern is to lure children into the plane library and make reading an entertaining activity. "We initiated our projects for train and plane libraries in an effort to instill the habit of reading to children. We are also currently working on a project for a 'ship library.'" Mayor Dinç also said that the plane library will feature books on the history of aviation. "This place will not only serve as a traditional library. Children will also be able to access information on aviation history as well as Turkish aviation. The cockpit will be open to children so that they can learn more about how a plane works. They can take pictures and save the photos as memories as well." Dinç also stressed the importance of reading book, especially during childhood, and said their municipality is ready to do everything in its power to make children love books and learning. Stating that Turkey is in need of people who are well educated, Dinç concluded by saying, "Reading is the first step for a good education. Reading books is important for becoming a well-equipped person." The interior design of the plane library has been finalized. Currently, the municipality is working on the landscape and exterior of the library. The plane library is set to open on Sept. 24 with a ceremony overseen by children and locals in Çankırı as well as representatives of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
