With 100 wooden yachts and 1,500 sailors, the annual Bodrum Cup kicked off yesterday by the initiatives of the Era Bodrum Sailing Club.
Running until Oct. 22, the international sailing and yacht festival is made up of five stages along different routes including "Bodrum-Gümüşlük," "Gümüşlük-Leros," "Leros-Yalıkavak," "Leros-Leros" and "Yalıkavak-Bodrum." Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon said in a press conference that the yacht competition has made "a tremendous contribution to sailing tourism in the town."
During the competitions, there will be side-events, such as cultural performances, held. Today, an acoustic concert at Off Gümüşlük will take place followed by an award ceremony at Halikarnas to be crowned by renowned singer Sertap Erener's concert on Oct. 22. The Bodrum Cup yacht regatta is a celebration of the end of the sailing season that brings together sailors, yacht owners, sea and environment lovers as well as tourists, expats and locals.
