The highest mountain in Central Anatolia, Mount Erciyes, is quickly becoming a mecca for downhill mountain biking with its new tracks attracting international cyclists around the world.
A group of professional Polish, Russian, Sweden and Austrian bikers showed their skills during an event dubbed the "Free Rider Downhill Turkey Cup."
The bikers will visit touristic attractions in Kayseri's city center during a five-day tour and then make their way to Cappadocia to put on another show.
Mainly practiced on steep and rough terrains where bikers are challenged with jumps, drops and other obstacles, downhill mountain biking is quite popular in the Alps.
With initiatives and investments from Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, the biking tracks will create new tourism potential for the Mt. Erciyes, already famed as a mountain retreat and ski resort.
Murat Cahid Cıngı, the general manager and CEO of the Erciyes A.Ş. said that although Mt. Erciyes has made a name for itself thanks to its skiing potential, much more is to be done to draw tourists to the region in warmer months.
The downhill biking tracks are both designed for amateur and professional bikers and international bikers will be invited in the upcoming months to put on spectacular shows.
