Bursa’s historic Cumalıkızık village in Türkiye, a UNESCO World Heritage site, will undergo a series of improvements aimed at making daily life easier for residents while also providing a more suitable environment for visitors.
A protocol signed between the Yıldırım Municipality, Yıldırım District Governorate and the Cumalıkızık Village Agricultural Development Cooperative will pave the way for improvements designed to preserve the village’s historic character while addressing local needs.
As part of the project, a modern marketplace will be built to provide local residents with a more organized setting to sell traditional products. An open-air parking area, as well as technical infrastructure and other physical improvements, will also be introduced based on the needs of the area.
The planned works are designed to remain compatible with Cumalıkızık’s historic fabric while improving living conditions in the village and the experience of visitors.
Yıldırım Mayor Oktay Yılmaz stressed the importance of preserving Cumalıkızık’s historical and cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations.
Yılmaz said the village attracts domestic and international tourists throughout the year and described it as one of Bursa’s most important cultural assets, with a history spanning around 700 years.
“With the improvements we will carry out, we will contribute to the daily lives of our residents while preserving Cumalıkızık’s historical and cultural character,” Yılmaz said. “These investments will also contribute to the tourism potential of the area.”
He said the protocol marked an important step toward implementing improvements in Cumalıkızık.
“We hope to begin the works shortly,” Yılmaz said, adding that the municipality would continue its efforts to preserve and improve Cumalıkızık.
