The settlements doubled to 2,534 new housing units in 2013, compared to 1,133 in 2012

West Bank (Daily Sabah and agencies)- The Israel central beaureau of statistics claims the Israeli settlements more than doubled during 2013.

Monday's announcement comes just hours before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is due to meet with President Barack Obama in Washington.

The announcement comes hours before Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is to meet with Barack Obama.

"We have seen more aggressive settlement construction over the last couple years than we've seen in a very long time," Obama said in an interview with Bloomberg View columnist Jeffrey Goldberg published on Sunday.

Aid agencies have highlighted the aggressive destruction of the Palestinian homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, ignoring the US-backed peace deal.

The number of demolitions increased by almost half, the displacement of Palestinians by nearly three-quarters, between July 2013, when the talks began, and the end of the year, compared to the same period in 2012,

The displacement of Palestinians have increased by nearly three-quarters, between July 2013, compared to the figures in 2012, a statement released by 25 aid organisations on February 7 said.

On January 22, Israel made a plan for 382 homes in West Bank. It also planned for illegal construction of 272 Israeli homes, with more than 1,877 new units, some including areas in the occupied region of East Jerusalem.

Palestinians refuse to accept anything outside the pre-1967 territorial lines, while Netanyahu strongly disregards the 'Green line' agreement.
