An Iraqi MP has claimed Saturday that the U.S. was planning to partially withdraw from Iraq should the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) militants take control of the Habbaniyah air base in the city of Ramadi.
Member of the Iraqi parliament Muwaffaq er-Rabbi, who previously served as national security undersecretary, said in a statement that "Washington has ordered American advisors to prepare plans for partially withdrawing from Iraq in case Habbaniyah base goes under ISIS control."
The U.S. has sent about 3,000 soldiers to Iraq after ISIS. The American forces are training and advising Iraqi forces.
On May 17, ISIS took control of Ramadi, in central Iraq, after overrunning Iraqi forces in the area.
