Madonna likens France to Nazi Germany

Madonna made her way back to the front pages after equating modern France to Nazi Germany in a radio interview with French station Radio Europe 1 on Thursday. The diva said that anti-Semitism is at its highest in France and all over Europe. She likened the current atmosphere in France to the Nazi period in Germany. "We're living in crazy times. It feels like Nazi Germany," Madonna said, before adding that France has been losing its conventional tolerance for diversity and freedom. "It was a country that embraced everyone and encouraged freedom in every way, shape or form - artistic expression of freedom," Madonna said. "Now that's completely gone. "France was once a country that accepted people of color, and was a place artists escaped to, whether it was Josephine Baker or Charlie Parker," she added. In 2012, Madonna had a quarrel with Marine Le Pen after she called her a "fascist." Madonna said that she received threats from Le Pen and her National Front party to sue Madonna over a video that featured Le Pen with a swastika mark on her forehead. In the interview with Radio Europe 1, the famous pop diva said that tolerance is now even more pressing. "What I said two years ago is valid today. It's not just happening in France, it's all over Europe. But particularly in France. The level of intolerance is so enormous, it's scary," Madonna concluded.
