A classical music concert will be held among chess sets in the Gökyay Association Chess Museum, where the world's biggest chess collection is exhibited, which also got into the Guinness Book of World of Records
The head of the Music Department at Hacettepe University State Conservatory, Prof. Dr. Yeşim Alkaya Yener, and her students will hold a concert titled "Feast of Classical Music from Past to Present" among chess sets in the Gökyay Association Chess Museum, where the world's biggest chess collection will be exhibited, which is in the Guinness Book of World of Records.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency before the concert, Yener said they are glad to bring art and music together in a museum and added it will be a different interaction to hold a concert with her students in the Gökyay Association Chess Museum. "Musicians are influenced by the atmosphere of the concert place and the audience travels to other worlds. In this concert, we brought different works together ranging from baroque to classical music and we will offer a feast of music to the audience," Yener said.
Yener added there will be other instruments in addition to piano. "We will perform Turkish pieces accompanied with piano, cello and human voice. Our guests will have an opportunity both to visit the museum and listen to different artists from different time periods. We will continue our concerts every month with new surprises. My students also supported our works voluntarily to bring Turkish composers, from classical period to modern period, together and to support the association," she said.
Yener reminded that Ankara State Conservatory has a long-standing history. "It was the first conservatory that was founded by Atatürk. The first steps were challenging for the institution and they were taken by bringing artists from abroad with difficulties. Students start their education here when they are 11 years old. So, I have known my students for years and we have a mother-daughter relationship with them. When we get close to each other, we catch harmony in our concerts and convey this harmony to the audience," she said.
Binnur Uçakhan, director of the Gökyay Association, said they will continue the culture and art activities as part of the association. "Keeping chess sets that we brought from 105 different countries means hosting these countries' cultures here.
However, museology goes in a different direction today and becomes a sort of cultural center. In this sense, we attach importance to bringing art and culture together," she said.
Uçakhan said there were four concerts as part of "the art and culture meeting" last year.
"It is particularly exciting for us to hold these concerts with young talents. We are very glad to have our first concert 'Feast of Classical Music from Past to Present' with an extensive repertoire, and a nice and crowded team. What makes our museum different than other concert halls is that there will be chess sets on the first floor of the museum and we will be able to enable our audience to feel each other thanks to our small capacity, which is 65 people. We will be glad to host music lovers here on Saturday," she said.
The group, consisting of Soner Yıldırım on bass, Doğa Saygı on cello, Dilan Dereli, Emin Ersöz Yiğit and Cansu Önder on piano, will perform at the concert that Prof. Dr. Yener and her students will hold in the museum on Saturday.
The concert will include pieces of 11 famous composers from different time periods including Scarlatti, Haydn, Beethoven, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Scriabin, Moniuszko, Korsakov, Debussy, Kuzmin and Baran.
Besides, the guest honor Aria will accompany Prof. Yeşim Alkaya Yener's piano students and perform popular songs.
