ISTANBUL – The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu yesterday held rallies in Düzce, Bolu, and Karabük in northwest Turkey. He touched on the death of 15-year-old teen Gezi Park victim Berkin Elvan, who passed away on Tuesday morning after 269 days in coma as a result of a blow on the head by a gas canister during a police crackdown in Okmeydanı, Istanbul, in June 2013.
Expressing his regret for the young boy's death, Kılıçdaroğlu asked, "What is happening to us? Why did we kill a 15-year-old child with a gas canister?" He added, "We should leave a better Turkey to our children. We are trying to ensure peace in the country."
Targeting Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Kılıçdaroğlu said, "We are trying to get citizens compensation for their work, but he [Erdoğan] tried to make his whole family richer."
