As of today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) will have issued 6,078,401 e-Visas through the Electronic Visa Application System website (www.evisa.gov.tr) that was launched in 2013. According to information obtained by the MFA, $121,606,625 in visa fees were collected via the e-Visa official website.
Turkey is the sixth most popular tourist destination in the world and every year around 13 million visitors have to get Turkish visas before they travel. In order to reduce the queues in front of visa counters, the Turkish MFA introduced the e-Visa in April 2013. The e-Visa, which takes approximately three minutes to obtain, replaced the traditional visas formerly stamped inside the traveler's passport or issued at the border crossing into Turkey.
According to the stats, each day in winter approximately 10,500 people and in summer 40,000 start their visa applications by using the e-visa application system. MFA officials also stated that enormous lengths of time have been saved from handling foreigners' visa applications and a large percentage of the workforce is now being allocated to the needs of Turkish citizens living abroad, via the e-Visa system.
Thus, 72.9 days of labor has been economized by choosing the e-visa application system every day. The stats also indicate that the e-Visa system has enabled the authorities to reach out to the thousands of people who don't have a Turkish consulate near their homes, precipitating a rise in the number of visitors from these countries by 21.09 percent in 2014.
