Turkey's Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) expelled former Iğdır deputy and intra-party opposition figure Sinan Oğan from party membership citing his recent comments criticizing party leadership and a possible poor performance in snap elections.
MHP's Central Disciplinary Committee unanimously voted to expel Oğan on Wednesday.
Oğan was critical of party's performance and stance in June 7 general elections, and his tweets criticizing MHP's performance in Istanbul, which fell behind the party's arch rival pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) performance, were exceptional in MHP known for its rigid leadership structure.
An influential figure in party's voter base, Oğan was not nominated by MHP in June 7 elections.
He later warned that MHP may not pass the 10 percent national election threshold in a possible snap election.
