Turkey's interim cabinet announced last Friday that it will hold its first meeting this Tuesday, according to sources from the Prime Ministry.
The meeting will take place noon Tuesday at the Çankaya Palace in Ankara. Prior to the meeting the cabinet members are scheduled to visit Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
Turkish political parties failed to form a coalition government following the June 7 general election. As a result, Turkey had to form an interim government to manage the country until the second round of elections are held on Nov. 1.
On Monday Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu also announced the hotly-anticipated task allocations of deputy prime ministers for the interim government in a statement published on the Official Gazette. Deputy Prime Minister Tuğrul Türkeş's appointment drew considerable scrutiny due to his MHP membership.
According to the allocations, Prime Minister Davutoğlu will oversee the National Security Council General Secretariat, the National Intelligence Organization, Presidency of Religious Affairs, Housing Development Administration and the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey Administration.
Meanwhile, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy Türkeş, will be responsible for running the Council of State, National Security Council and the Coordination of Cyprus alliance of civilizations project in the 63rd government.
Türkeş's acceptance of a role in the interim government has stirred controversy among his party members and the MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli who strongly opposed Türkeş's decision. He has been referred to the MHP's disciplinary committee for accepting a deputy prime minister post. Prime Minister Davutoğlu defended Türkeş, explaining that "Türkeş said ‘yes' to fulfill a duty in line with the Constitution as a deputy of the MHP and did not say ‘yes' to joining the AK Party."
