Küçükçekmece Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul on Saturday has launched an investigation on Sözcü daily for threatening and insulting President Erdoğan in its cover page published on January 1.
According to reports, the prosecutors launched the investigation on four different charges, including insulting and threatening the President, abetting and instigation of violence against the President.
Pro-Kemalist Sözcü's front page on January 1 featured a word search puzzle entitled 'Your 2016 Horoscope,' saying that the first three names the reader found in the puzzle would be in his/her life in 2016. The puzzle was intentionally made up with three names, Recep, Tayyip and Erdoğan and in one of the lines, it said 'Die Recep.'
The newspaper has frequently been accused of fabrication and twisting facts and having close links with the Gülen Movement, which is recognized as a terrorist organization known as 'FETÖ.'
