Thirty-two potential suicide bombers from four terrorist organizations were caught by security forces while attempting suicide attacks in 2015.
Terrorists from the PKK, DAESH, the far-left Revolutionary Peoples Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) and the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) were apprehended in operations last year. While 25 potential suicide bombers were captured, seven were found dead.
Continuing their fight against the DAESH presence in the country, security forces prevented 12 militants from organizing attacks in the provinces of Konya, Ankara and Manisa. Two of them, Musa Canöz, 28, and Adnan Yıldırım, 40, were arrested at the last moment while attempting a suicide bombing.
Eight PKK terrorists were also caught in 2015. B.D., from the terrorist organization's Qandil Mountains units, was captured in Diyarbakır and nine PKK-linked suspects, including three children, were detained over a denunciation in a primary school's front yard in Seyrantepe, Istanbul on Aug. 11. A PKK terrorist in the southeastern province of Hakkari detonated himself and his vehicle on a route for gendarmerie forces. The suicide bomber was the only casualty in the attack.
DHKP-C terrorists also suffered a blow due to security operations conducted in Istanbul throughout 2015. Nine militants attempting suicide bombings have been captured since operations started in July. Günay Arslan was found dead, while Y.V., Selda K. and Hatice Aşık were captured by security units.
Three terrorists from the MLKP were caught last year. The organization was last seen at the end of December with militants showing a display of force, holding AK-47s at a terrorist's funeral.
