A senior official from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Aysel Tuğluk was arrested over terrorism-related charges by a court in southeastern Diyarbakır province on Wednesday evening.

Police previously detained Tuğluk in Ankara on Monday morning, according to a police source.

An anti-terrorism police unit detained Aysel Tuğluk as part of an investigation carried out by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.

Also, five more suspects were detained in Diyarbakır on Monday on charges of "being a member of an armed terrorist group" and "managing an armed terrorist group", another police source said.

Last month, 13 HDP lawmakers were arrested, 10 of whom, including HDP Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, remain in custody awaiting trial on terrorism-related charges.

The HDP has come under fire for its close links to the PKK and members of the party have so far declined to call the PKK a "terrorist group," and attended PKK militants' funerals, two of whom were the suicide bombers who killed dozens of civilians in multiple bombings in the capital Ankara.

Parliamentary immunities of deputies from all four parties in the Parliament were lifted earlier this year, which affected a total of 138 of 550 deputies. The lifting targeted lawmakers coming from all four parties who have a total of 667 criminal proceedings lodged against them.

In addition, former HDP deputy and current Co-Chairperson of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Sabahat Tuncel, who is accused of being a member of a terrorist group and spreading terror propaganda, was also detained.

The government has accused the HDP of having links to the outlawed PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU.
