President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan warned that millions of people in east African countries and Yemen were at risk of suffering a major humanitarian crisis as a severe drought threatens millions of people across the region.
In a series of tweets posted on late Saturday, the president said, "We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to requests for help from those countries where drought-related hunger has reached critical levels."
Erdoğan encouraged his followers to make donations. More than 20 million people living in Somalia, Nigeria, South Sudan and Yemen are under the risk of dying from starvation within six months.
