While Nurcan Taylan won three gold medals at the European Weightlifting Championship in the 48-kilo category, Nurdan Karagöz received two silver and one bronze medal in the same category. Gökhan Kılıç also won one gold and one silver in the 56 kilo category.
Turkey has done well at the European Weightlifting Championship, which is being held in Kazan, the capital of the autonomous region of Tatarstan. On the first day of the competition, Nurcan Taylan won three gold medals in the snatch at 90 kilos, clean and jerk at 105 kilos and aggregate in the 48 kilogram women's category. In the same category, Nurdan Karagöz won a bronze for snatch, lifting 80 kilos. In clean and jerk, Karagöz won the silver medal by lifting 100 kilos, also securing the silver in aggregate at 180 kilograms, with just a 250 gram advantage over Italy's Pagliaro. A FIRST FROM GÖKHAN KILIÇ Competing in the men's 56 kg category, Gökhan Kılıç achieved his first European championship gold by lifting 118 kilos in the snatch category. In clean and jerk, Gökhan took fifth place lifting 138 kilos. In aggregate, Gökhan took the silver with a total of 256 kilos.
In the same weight category, Sedat Artuç took eighth place.
Today Turkey's representatives, Aylin Daşdelen and Ayşegül Çoban compete in the women's 53 kilo category, while in the men's 62 kilo category, Bünyamin Sezer and Hurşit Atak will take the stage.
