Ivory Coast forward Didier Drogba joined Galatasaray for one-and-a-half-years at the end of January from China's Shanghai Shenhua. Last night marked Didier Yves Drogba's first game with Turkish Super League Leaders Galatasaray since he signed. The experienced striker scored within the first five minutes of joining the game at the 63rd minute mark. The legendary striker's header in the 68th minute was also the first goal scored in last night's game between Galatasaray and Akhisar Belediye which stood at a zero-all draw before Drogba came on. Drogba's score infused energy into the visiting league leaders last night and just three minutes later, the Chelsea veteran was assisting a second goal for the team by Burak Yılmaz.
Akhisar's Sertan Vardar scored a sole goal for the hosts in the 85th minute of the game, however it was too little too late after the successful entry of Galatasaray's newest transfer. Didier Drogba will be playing with Galatasaray for the remainder of the 2012-2013 season as well as next year's 2013-2014 season.
This transfer followed another high-profile transfer made by the Turkish Super League leaders Galatasaray just a week before prior when they brought in Wesley Snejder.
Galatasaray's next match will be their February 20th face-off against Germany's Schalke 04 for the Champions League, which will be played at Istanbul's Türk Telekom Arena.
