The winners of the 2015 Turkey Fair Play Awards, organized by the National Olympic Committee of Turkey (TMOK), were announced yesterday with the sportsmen who were seen worthy for the award being declared at a press conference at the Olimpiyatevi in Ataköy. Miner Murat Yalçın, who was rescued from the mines during the Soma mining tragedy, was granted the TMOK Social Fair Play Award. Speaking at the beginning of the press meeting, TMOK Fair Play Commission Board Member Perviz Aran claimed that the commission is one of the most important sections of the committee, which was founded in 1908. "Fair Play is one of the most important concepts that we need today. This year, we will also present the TMOK Social Fair Play Award, an award we have not handed out for a while," he said.
Vice President of the European Fair Play Council and General Coordinator of the TMOK Fair Play Commission Erdoğan Arıkan drew attention to their new project (WHAT PROJECT) and said, "We will teach fair play to the students attending the faculty of sports in universities, physical education and sports high schools. If we teach them this concept, they will teach their own students in the future. Azerbaijan and Hungary have also taken the example from our project."
The president of the TMOK Fair Play Commission, Faruk Özbay, who announced the winners of the awards, said Yalçın will be presented with the award because "he earned the appreciation of society." Following the rescue, Yalçın, who was carried to the ambulance, asked the nurse whether he should take his boots off or not, in order to prevent the ambulance from getting dirty.
