Turkish athlete Mehmet Çelik won the bronze medal in the men's 800-meters at the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires on Monday.
Çelik came third in the race with a timing of 3 minutes 41.79 seconds. Ethiopia's Tasew Yada won gold with a timing of 3:39.76, while Algeria's Mohamed Ali Gouaned came second at 3:41.74. Monday was the ninth day of the 3rd Youth Olympics, which began on Oct. 6 and will run through Oct. 18.
Singapore hosted the first ever Youth Olympic Games in 2010, while the second edition of the international multi-sports event was held in China in 2014.
Featuring some 4,000 athletes, the event will see young athletes between the ages of 15 to 18 compete in 32 sports and 36 disciplines for 1,250 medals.
