Anthony Musaba is closing in on a return to the English Championship, with the Fenerbahçe winger set to join Norwich City on a season-long loan after the clubs reached an agreement.

The 25-year-old Dutchman has traveled to England for his medical, with the remaining formalities expected to be completed before the move is officially announced. Reports from journalist Pete O’Rourke, Turkish outlets including Fanatik and Hürriyet, and reporter Yağız Sabuncuoğlu indicate that Norwich will take Musaba for the 2026-27 season.

Norwich are expected to cover a significant portion, potentially all, of Musaba's wages. Some reports have also suggested an option to buy could be included, although that detail has not been consistently confirmed.

For Musaba, the move offers a chance to return to a competition where he previously established himself as an effective wide player. For Fenerbahçe, it provides an opportunity for him to play regularly while helping the club manage a crowded squad and foreign-player restrictions.

From England to Türkiye

Musaba began his senior career at NEC Nijmegen before joining Monaco in 2020. He spent time on loan at Cercle Brugge, Heerenveen, Metz and NEC before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in August 2023.

He enjoyed his most consistent spell there, making roughly 70 appearances across competitions and contributing around 10 goals and a similar number of assists, depending on the statistical count.

His pace, direct running and work rate made him an important attacking outlet.

In the summer of 2025, Musaba moved to Samsunspor for a fee reported at around 1 million euros. He quickly impressed, scoring six goals and providing four assists in 22 appearances across competitions during the first half of the 2025-26 season.

Fenerbahçe responded by triggering his release clause, reportedly worth between 5 million and 6 million euros, and signed him in January 2026 on a contract through June 2030.

His move came after a turbulent end to his time at Samsunspor. Musaba had reportedly refused to play amid interest from other clubs, prompting disciplinary action before his transfer to Fenerbahçe.

He made an immediate impact, providing two assists in Fenerbahçe's 2-0 Turkish Super Cup semifinal win over Samsunspor on Jan. 6, 2026, and later contributing to the club's Super Cup triumph.

However, he struggled to secure a regular starting role. Musaba finished the season with around 24 appearances across competitions, scoring two goals and supplying six assists.

Why Norwich makes sense

Fenerbahçe's decision to loan Musaba is linked to both sporting and squad considerations.

Competition for attacking positions has increased, while injuries also disrupted his progress. The Istanbul club are simultaneously restructuring their squad and managing foreign-player limits under Turkish Football Federation regulations.

A loan gives Musaba the chance to regain confidence and regular playing time without Fenerbahçe giving up control of a player whose contract runs until 2030.

Norwich see his Championship experience and versatility as major advantages. The club, managed by Philippe Clement, have been looking for attacking reinforcements after changes to their squad, including the departure of Matej Jurasek and a serious ACL injury to Canadian international Ali Ahmed.

Musaba can operate on either wing and has also played in more central attacking roles. His speed and ability to carry the ball could provide Norwich with another dangerous option in the Championship.

His familiarity with the league should also help him settle quickly.

Musaba's career has taken several turns in a short period, moving from Sheffield Wednesday to Samsunspor and then Fenerbahçe within a year.

The Norwich loan offers him an opportunity to restore the momentum he built in England and prove that his best form remains ahead of him.
