West Ham United have condemned an “offensive and divisive” chant targeting new winger Manor Solomon, an Israel international, and urged supporters to stop singing it.
The English club said Thursday it was aware that a section of its fans had sung the chant during Sunday’s season-opening 2-2 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor.
West Ham said the chant directed at Solomon contained an “anti-Palestine message” and was sung by some of the club’s traveling supporters.
The club described the chant as unacceptable and said it had no place among its supporters.
West Ham said it wanted to “remind supporters of the responsibility we all hold to represent the club in the right way” and that “each and every supporter is an ambassador.”
The club signed 27-year-old Solomon from Tottenham.
West Ham added: “Regardless of their background, every supporter within our diverse fanbase should also be free to enjoy watching their team play football without fear, discrimination or abuse. And we remain committed to ensuring that everyone feels safe, respected and included.”
The club continued: “We encourage our supporters to sing loud and proud about their football club and the players wearing the claret and blue shirt, but never in a way that creates division or causes offense among fellow fans.”
Solomon has made 49 appearances for Israel.
He previously played for Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine before joining Fulham on loan. He was also part of the Leeds team that won the Championship and earned promotion to the Premier League in the 2024-25 season.
