Social media provides significant opportunities for women entrepreneurs. According to an analysis conducted by IdeaSoft, an e-commerce infrastructure provider in Turkey, the number of women entrepreneurs rose four-fold within a short time thanks to social media channels, specifically Instagram. Women entrepreneurs, who take five orders a day on average via Instagram, turn towards e-commerce. IdeaSoft General Manager Seyhun Özkara emphasized the fact that Instagram was one of the biggest catalyzers that helped increase the number of women who engage in e-commerce. Stressing that Instagram has been an important tool for the e-commerce sector since 2013, Özkara said that women entrepreneurs often take their first step into e-commerce by sharing the products that they produce in their homes or workshops. Özkara added that this buying and selling ecosystem can no longer be ignored in 2015. Baby and children's products, women clothes, cosmetics and organic products are among the products sold most on Instagram. Istanbul and İzmir are the two cities where women entrepreneurs are most involved in e-commerce, followed by Balıkesir, Adana, Ankara, Bursa, Antalya, Kocaeli, Muğla and Kütahya, respectively. Meanwhile, the Revenue Office is working on steps to tax social networking sites and implement other regulations relating e-commerce. After implementing regulations, all such virtual sites will be deemed as "work places," and the advertisers of social networking sites will also be deemed as "electronic tax payers."
