Science, Industry and Technology Minister Fikri Işık has said that the ministry aims to develop 5G mobile networks with domestic technology, saying that there is not a considerable distance between Turkey and the world in this regard.
Answering questions from journalists at the occasion that was held to mark the 95th anniversary of the opening of Parliament, Işık said that 5G technology is about an infrastructural investment, to a considerable extent, and that Turkey does not have major problems with infrastructure. What is important is to develop technology, and Turkey needs to use every means available to develop its software, he said.
Concerning criticism that had been directed at President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's suggestion that Turkey should directly switch to as of yet nonexistent 5G technology from 3G instead of investing in 4G technology, Işık said it is not possible to agree with such criticism that are made just for the sake of opposing the president. "Technology should not be approached in an ideological manner," he added. Işık underlined that Turkey can switch to 5G simultaneously with the world as long as it does its best. If the budget that will be dedicated for 4G is invested in 5G, Turkey will have a significant technological accumulation, he said.
