Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca stated on Thursday that the university is willing to be actively involved in facilitating the progress of 5G installation in Turkey.
"We will focus on the standards, frequencies and sub-components of the 5G technology. But the most important part of our work is training students to be specialists in the technology," he said.
The statement released by İTÜ touched upon the fact that the university has sped up its studies on 5G technology, the importance of which was implied by the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to its official statement, İTÜ considers 5G research to be very important and an opportunity to make Turkey a knowledge-based society.
"İTÜ 5G Workgroup" has been founded by the Faculty of Electronics and Institute of Informatics for a Turkey that develops and sells technologies itself. 5G-related research on technological components, standards and human resources will be conducted by the workgroup.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca said that the university wants to be actively involved in every step of the development of the technology, and they aim to work collectively with companies in the sector.
"As a university that has contributed to the development of various scientific and technological innovations in our country, İTÜ is still working on new studies. We are working hard to be one of the actors that will shape the technologies of the future"
Emphasizing that one of the main duties of İTÜ is to train qualified human resources, Karaca added that the university is planning to introduce masters and doctorate programs in 5G Technology.
