Turkey is by far the preferred overseas destination for Russian tourists who plan to vacation in the country in May.
According to data compiled by the Russian Federal Tourism Agency (Rosturizm) from the country's leading tour operators, 32 of Russian tourists holiday reservations are for Turkey, making the country "by far the favorite" destination in the eyes of Russians this May.
Turkey is followed by Cyprus with 8 percent and Greece at 7 percent. Russian tourists' preference for Turkey has soared by 12 percent compared to last year. Tourism sector authorities said the number of Russian tourists visiting Turkey surged to 40,124 in January 2017, with an 81 percent rise from January 2016.
It is estimated that nearly 3 million Russians will visit Turkey by the end of the year.
