Production of the ‘Marti’, Turkey’s first boat to operate on hydrogen gas, has begun in the Tuzla shipyard. When completed, the Marti will be operated by IDO and will transport passengers on the Golden Horn.
The project, which was founded by engineers and engineering candidates from Istanbul's Technical University, uses a new fuel technology consisting of compressed hydrogen gas combined with the oxygen gas in the atmosphere to create electrical energy. The project is intended to act as an alternative option to creating fossil fuels which result in polluting the environment.
The boat will be able to carry six passengers and two crew members. It will be 8.13 meters in length and 3.2 meters wide and will be able to go up to six nautical miles an hour. Production is expected to be completed in April.
