En route to Düzce from Bolu, President Abdullah Gül commented on the detainment of former Chief of General Staff retired General İlker Başbuğ by stating, “We are witnessing a trial process taking place within the legal system. Everyone has responsibilities in this legal system and everyone is equal before the law.”
Responding to journalists' questions, President Abdullah Gül emphasized that that there is a legal order in Turkey and stated the following; "We are witnessing a trial process taking place within this legal system. Nobody can be declared guilty without a court conviction. We would like to ensure that first and foremost everyone is aware of this. Then of course, everyone bares a responsibility to justice and the legal system. Therefore, everyone is equal before the law. In this regard, it is necessary to proceed with quite a level of composure."
After visiting the Düzce Governorship, Gül pointed out that the region is being rebuilt following the 1999 earthquake disaster and stated, "Düzce is a candidate to become a significant city." Gül performed his Friday prayers at the Cedidiye Mosque.
