While the UN Security Council is not expected to release a new ruling due to vetoes by Russia and China, an announcement by the Secretary General or a press release from the U.N. is expected to be made on April 11th. The UN is expected to bring the issue of working on establishing political sanctions and providing humanitarian aid to the table, should the Security Council be unable to surpass the present veto crisis.
According to Selçuk Ünal, Speaker for Turkey's Foreign Affairs Ministry, conflict is still ongoing in seven to eight regions in Syria. "As of today (yesterday) the number of Syrians that have arrived to the Turkish border has reached 24,564. The increasing number of arrivals recently and the stories relayed by Syrians reveal that the Syrian administration is not following the Annan Plan. If this is following the plan, then there is a serious inconsistency."
FOUR U.N. OBSERVERS
After Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu made an emergency call to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, four U.N. observers have arrived to the refugee camps in Turkey.
Upon Davutoğlu's call, yesterday Secretary General Ban Ki-moon released the following announcement: "The Syrian government must immediately and unconditionally put a halt to all military activities pursued against the Syrian public."
