Turkey's Ministry of Labor and Social Security has announced that they terminated a total of 92 mines within the first seven months of 2014.
The Provincial Inspection Committees has inspected mines throughout the country and decided that 92 of them posed an imminent threat to the lives of the employees with their unsafe working conditions.
While 11 of these mines are located in Edirne, 10 are in Zonguldak, 7 in Tekirdağ, 6 in Ankara and Istanbul and 5 are in Kütahya, Kocaeli and Manisa.
The owners of these mines have also received strict fines for failing to abide by labor regulations and risking the lives of their employees.
In recent months, Turkey has experienced one of the worst mining and labor disasters in its history when a coal mine in Soma, Manisa collapsed, killing 301 mine workers and wounding over 300.
The Ministry of Labor has since then increased inspections for mines and has adopted stricter measurements to ensure safety for employees.
