The Turkish government is planning a more efficient approach to social aid distribution by determining the exact needs of disadvantaged families.
For instance, air conditioners will be categorized as a need for families in the cities of Hatay, Şanlıurfa and Mersin with year-round high temperatures, while it will not be included as social aid in colder provinces.
Families already receiving social benefits were interviewed and a set of criteria was determined for the aid distribution. The aid will be increased or decreased based on the family's income, consumption habits, number of children, car ownership and education level.
