Toxic textile products and sunglasses imported from the Far East trigger cancerous cells due to their ingredients. According to Assistant Professor Saim Engin Akdoğan of Istanbul Gelişim University, synthetic fiber is the most dangerous substance in toxic textiles. "Textile products can be either natural or synthetic; the natural ones are manufactured with animal and plant products. They are healthier and become wrinkled after washing. On the other hand, clothes made from synthetic fiber do not wrinkle and are dangerous. People should not buy synthetic clothes for their health," Akdoğan stated.
He said that people should pay attention to the tags of any textile product. "If there is a sign that says their products do not wrinkle, you should be careful," he continued. It is difficult to manufacture textile products with 100 percent cotton; however, the synthetic material should not exceed 40 percent. "If you buy clothing exceeding these rates, you should wash it a few times before putting it on, as the product can cause allergic reactions and rashes on the skin," Akdoğan added.
Sunglasses can be also be produced illegally. These products, which are very common due to their cheapness, cause diseases that will show up in later years. "We only realize that we were exposed to UV lights years later," said Assistant Professor Fadime Nuhoğlu of Istanbul Gelişim University. She also added that these products cause cancer due to their raw materials.
