Bakeries in the northwestern Turkish city of Kocaeli will face a ban on razors used in scoring the bread after a razor that accidently slipped into a loaf was swallowed by an unaware customer.
Osman Sarıboğa was hospitalized after he ate the loaf in which the baker apparently dropped the razor. The razor was found stuck in man's aorta after it left a puncture in his throat, and Sarıboğa was saved from certain death after a six-hour surgery.
Local authorities imposed a ban on the use of razors, generally attached to a wooden handle, after the incident, and ordered bakers to use plastic tools to score the loaves instead. Plastic tools will be delivered to bakeries by the local state-run authority overseeing bakery operations.
Sarıboğa's family filed a lawsuit against the bakery while authorities issued a fine to the bakery's owner over the incident.
