Speaking on Mother's Day, Hatice Börü, mother of Yasin Börü who was murdered during October 6-7 Kobani protests along with three others, said she 'will not forgive' pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, whom she sees as being responsible for the deaths.
Yasin Börü and his friends were mugged and killed while handing out meat prepared by a voluntary union for the poor during the Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).
The shocked and bitter Hatice Börü said that "I know Yasin will not come back. I want the government to take this matter into their own hands and those responsible should be punished. I want them to be punished as a Mother's Day present to put my mind at rest."
Stating that she has felt extremely lonely since her son passed away, she said that she will never vote for Demirtaş and added that all he does his incite hate and violence amongst people. She asked of Demirtaş, "How can you call yourself a 'man of religion' when you go around killing people?"
While Syrian Kurdish city of Kobani was under siege by the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and Sham, protests erupted in southeastern Turkey following the call of HDP's Demirtaş, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and Kurdish Communities Union (KCK), which serves as an umbrella organization for unlawful PKK, PJAK, PYD and PÇDK armed groups respectively operating in Turkey, Iran, Syria and Iraq. Börü and his friends were murdered in southeastern city of Diyarbakır, along with 32 others killed within the armed clashes among pro-PKK and Free Cause Party affiliated groups.
17 people were taken into custody regarding the deaths of Yasin Börü and his friends, seven of whom were arrested. The investigation continues.
