Turkey's head of religious affairs arrived in Jerusalem Thursday to attend a ceremony to mark the Islamic event of Miraj, the day when Muslims believe Prophet Mohammad was given a tour of heaven.
Mehmet Görmez, president of Turkey's Presidency of Religious Affairs, was in Jerusalem on the invitation of Palestinian minister of religious affairs Yusuf Ismail al-Sheikh.
"It is a great honor to pray with our Palestinian brothers at Masjid al-Aqsa during the Miraj day," Görmez said.
Görmez is expected to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Friday.
